I heard two really great interviews Monday. The first one was with Greg Laurie and Hugh Hewitt. Laurie founded and runs Harvest Ministries here in Orange County and will be having a huge event at Angel Stadium. http://www.harvest.org
Laurie, who was born in Long Beach, California, became a Christian under the ministry of Pentecostal evangelist Lonnie Frisbee. Then, at the age of 19, he had the opportunity to lead a Bible-study of 30 people originally started by Frisbee at All Saints Episcopal Church in Riverside, California. The church that formed from this group has grown to become one of the largest churches in the United States. Laurie holds two honorary doctorates from Biola University and Azusa Pacific University. He serves on the board of directors for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
This guy is amazingly articulate and can communicate such heart felt things. I was amazed by this interview. Hugh and him have been friends for 20 years and Hugh mentioned that he made a movie about him, 20 years ago. Never heard that before, and I could not find anything on a search or his website. Not sure what that is about.
Hugh asked him what he thinks about the political climate and how it relates to his work. His response was amazing, "You cannot build an Olympian with a handout, and I hope the president hears this". He also told a story about the struggles he's had since his young son died in a car accident in 2008. This is really one of the good guys.
There will be a transcript of this interview on Hugh's website. There is also a transcript of the three hour show he did on Friday with Rajiv Chandrasekaran on Afghanistan and his book, Little America. Amazing detail that you have never heard before about that country. http://www.hughhewitt.com/transcripts.aspx
The second interview I heard today was on Fresh Air. Dean Norris who plays DEA agent Hank Schrader on the AMC series Breaking Bad. This is great to hear this guy interviewed. I'm a huge fan of the show and Dean plays a big part in it. The big surprise in this interview is that Dean went to Harvard. Interesting segment in this interview where they break down how the scene was filmed where he gets shot 3 times. You can hear this interview on the website for free. http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/
